Pit bulls are popularly misunderstood because they are fierce by nature and thought to be dangerous animals by a lot of people, but not all pit bulls are dangerous.

“Mom had him in her arms, and then he looked at me, and I was like, Is this dog going to bite?'”

This was the first thing Andi Davis’ daughter, Jessi, said when she saw Elijah, the injured pit bull.

Andi, a woman from Phoenix, had found him seriously injured on a hiking trail a few years before.

At first, she was also skeptical, but when she saw there was no one to help, she immediately dropped her doubts and offered the pit bull water. She then carried the 2-year-old, over 40-pound dog down the mountain for a half mile!

She met with her husband and 10-year old daughter, and they rushed the injured dog to AHS, where the vets in Second Chance Animal Hospital took care of him.

The veterinarians found open wounds on his chest and bullets on his shoulder and neck.

Andi knew she wanted Elijah, and so did the rest of the family. Jessi told AZ Central:

"I looked in his eyes—I could tell, I could just tell that he was a nice dog.”

She told CNN:

"I thought I would never see him again, I knew he was in good hands, but I still felt very sad.”
