A year ago, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan welcomed a new addition to the family – the second daughter August. They made a happy announcement in Facebook, followed by thousands of well-wishing comments!
The couple suffered from three miscarriages in the past, that’s why having two daughters now is a blessing for the family.
Their first daughter Max was born in 2015. The new parenting role inspired the pair to establish the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to make the world a better place for the children.
On that very same day, Mark announced the birth of their philanthropic fund and unfolded its purpose – to cure the world’s diseases by the end of the century.
Two years later, on August 28, happy news of a new member of the family spread the world from Zuckerberg’s Facebook page. Priscilla and Mark wrote a touching letter to their second daughter August and shared it publicly.
The message from mommy and daddy revealed the dreams they had for the future and the world they dream to build for their girls.
It contains valuable life lessons and insights, and it feels like every word comes from the heart.
We wrote that with all the advances in science and technology, your generation should live dramatically better lives than ours, and we have a responsibility to do our part to make that happen. We're optimists about your generation and the future.
At the same time, the new parents realize the importance of having a normal childhood, not burdened by worries about the future.
You will be busy when you're older, so I hope you take time to smell all the flowers and put all the leaves you want in your bucket now. I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss books so many times you start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. I hope you ride the carousel with Max until you've tamed every color horse. I hope you run as many laps around our living room and yard as you want.
August in 1 year old now, it’s doubtful she can already read that special message from mom and dad, but it would come as a pleasant surprise years later.
Back in 2017, the new father took 2 months paternity leave, the same amount of time he needed after Max had been born. By being a part of a large family, he learned the importance of family values and teamwork, watching his parents Karen and Edward Zuckerberg raising 4 children, Mark and his three sisters Randi, Donna, and Arielle.
It’s been a year since Facebook mogul became the father for the second time, and we congratulate him on having this amazing journey with his little women.
