The loss of Doris Day shook the entertainment industry in many ways. We all dearly loved the actress, and she will definitely be missed.
Doris Day passed away on May 13, 2019, as a result of pneumonia.
It not only her fans who will miss the talented actress and singer.
Her grandson and only heir, Ryan Melcher, 37, said he had been banned from seeing his grandmother and found out about her death on social media, like the rest of us.
Ryan gave a sad account on Facebook of how he had been cut off from his grandmother since his parents' divorce.
He started by saying:
" I received the news of my grandmother's passing like many of you."
According to his post, he had been separated from his grandmother since the saga of his parents' divorce, which left him stuck in the middle.
Unfortunately, his father lost his life to melanoma in 2004. Then, his grandmother reached out to him for them to have dinner together.
Ryan was excited at an opportunity to be reunited with his grandmother once again. However, her then-manager asked Ryan to meet him at a different location in Carmel, California.
There, the manager asked him why he wanted to see Doris. Ryan was shocked at such an unusual question, but he was told by the manager that:
" I'm afraid you aren't going to be able to see your grandmother,"
The manager used his parents' divorce as an excuse for denying him access to his grandmother.
Ryan then decided not to push the matter further as he had heard Doris' mental health was deteriorating. He did not want to cause any further stress to her.
In his post, Ryan regrets not pushing harder and letting a stranger come in-between himself and his grandmother. He said:
"The dinner between my grandma and I never took place…. She instilled a drive and confidence that I will carry with me the rest of my life."
Ryan will forever remember his grandmother as the angel that she was, someone who inspired him to go for the best. We wish Ryan the peace to live with the loss and remember her legacy.
