Amelia Bannan was six months pregnant when she was involved in a car accident in which she suffered major head injury.
She had a skull fracture that ended up causing a blood clot in her brain. Due to her state, she went into a coma and was hospitalized for months.
It was while in this state that her baby, Santino was born. Amelia was 34 weeks pregnant when her child, who weighed 4 pounds 16 ounces, arrived via caesarian section The baby was born completely healthy, to the happy surprise of his family.
Amelia, who is an Argentinian police officer, remained in the coma for a few weeks after her baby was born. All through this time, her family was there for her.
Her relatives visited her at the hospital every day and brought along her little boy. Even though everyone was hopeful, they were not sure when, or if at all Amelia would regain consciousness.
Amelia's brother, Cesar, told NTN24 that the day his sister woke up was unforgettable and basically miraculous.
That day we heard there in the silence, while we were giving Santino the bottle, we heard a low voice, we heard ‘yes’, ‘yes’.
To be sure Amelia could actually hear and communicate, they asked her to stick out her tongue if she understood what the people in the room were saying. She did that.
Everyone was so excited. They hugged her and the whole room was filled with warmth.
Since she woke up, she continued to get better and was able to meet the baby she gave birth to three months previously.
Her recovery was a gradual one but at the end of the day, even doctors were pretty amazed at how far she came.
