Kids are God’s gift to people. However, as pleasant as they can be, they are also a lot to handle. It’s why many people would settle for a small number of children using several types of contraceptives.
But single mother Sonia O'Lachlan doesn’t mind having ten children flocking around her.
Sonia, who is a part of a Channel 5 documentary titled ‘Me and My 10 Kids: Mega Families’, has just welcomed her tenth child.
The family consists of Nicola, 19, Leah, 17, Shannon 16, Keon, 14, Erin, 13, Kye, 10, Cana, 7, Lewis, 5, Lexi, 1, and their latest addition, a baby boy.
The massive family live in a four-bedroom council flat in Southhampton and survive on benefits. Having this number of children does not come as a surprise, as Sonia has never used a condom in her life.
"Some people say they're allergic to condoms. I can't say that because I've never used one."
Mornings in the O’Lachlan household are always hectic. They only have three bowls, which mean the kids have to take turns to eat. To make things worse, the bathroom sink is blocked, so they have to brush their teeth in the kitchen sink.
Sonia and the kids rely on the £460 received in child task. She uses the money to feed her kids and make sure they are as comfortable as can be. £179 of that money goes into rent while £130 is for food.
Determined to make her children eat well, Sonia buys their food in bulk. Also, she cooks every one of their meals from scratch.
Being a nursing mother and going through all that stress seems to be taking a toll on Sonia, as she experiences back aches frequently.
However, none of that compares to the joy of having kids around her. Sonia loves having them and will not apologize for it.
