Is There Foul Play? Woman Claimed She Was Fired After Donating A Kidney To Help Her Boss

A woman claimed that her boss began to treat her unfairly after she donated a kidney to help save the woman's life.

According to reports, 47-year-old Debbie Stevens filed a complaint in which she claimed that her boss, Jackie Brucia, used her for her organ and then fired her.

Brucia worked for Atlantic Automotive Group and she hired Stevens in 2009 as an assistant. Stevens alleged that, after the kidney transplant surgery, Brucia began to treat her "horribly, viciously, and inhumanly."

Stevens did not technically donate a kidney directly to Brucia because the pair were not a perfect match. However, Stevens donated her organ to a stranger, a gesture, which made it possible for Brucia to move up the donor list to get an organ.

While explaining the origin of her relationship with her boss, Stevens said she initially left the company in 2010. She later returned to visit Brucia which was when the latter told her that she needed a kidney transplant.

At the time, Brucia said she had someone who was willing to donate and Stevens replied telling her that she was available to make a donation if the other plans fell through.

A few months later, Stevens asked if there were any job openings and Brucia soon hired her. Then one day, her boss asked her if she was still interested in donating her kidney. Stevens said she agreed and that she did it completely out of the goodness of her heart.

I did not do it for job security. I didn't do it to get a raise. I did it because it's who I am.

Stevens had the surgery, but it took her a while to get back on her feet because she experienced some discomfort and digestive problems. As soon as she returned to work, four weeks after the surgery, her boss started having issues with her.

Screaming at me about things I never did, carrying on to the point where she wouldn't even let me leave my desk. It was constant, constant screaming.

Within a week of this treatment, Stevens was fired and she never really understood what went wrong.

In the end, Debbie Stevens, the Atlantic Automotive Group, and Jackie Brucia decided to settle the matter out of court.

It sure seems unfair that a woman who made such a major sacrifice got a bad payback. Perhaps, the boss had a reason for her actions - we may never know.

What would you do if you were in Stevens' shoes?
