Unknown to many people, gaits can serve as telltale signs of personality. You can tell a person's mood by how they carry themselves and even ultimately guess their traits.

According to research, factors like walking speed, posture, the position of arms, and many others can give an insight into what kind of person you are. Are you in doubt? Let's get right to it!

1. Fast walkers are extroverts

There is a high possibility that a fast walker likes to meet new people, go out and be spontaneous; the qualities of an extrovert. Also, it could mean that they're punctual. According to the research, higher extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness were related to a faster walking speed.

2. Slow walkers are tentative

A slow walker may be more meticulous and cautious than others because they take their steps with precision. According to Caleb Backe, a health and wellness expert at Maple Holistics, slow and shorter strides could mean you are looking out for yourself. It could also depict self-centeredness, but not in a bad way.

3. Nervous people walk leftward

Whether the person is generally anxious or only apprehensive at that point, they tend to walk towards the left side. WebMD suggests that this happens because the right side of the brain is doing too much work to handle fear and doubts.

4. People who saunter have confidence

Typically, when someone walks with their head held high, and strolls rather than walking, hurriedly, it indicates boldness. Additionally, it could also mean the person lacks a sense of urgency or isn't punctual by nature.

5. Harried walkers pay attention to detail

When you notice that someone walks with quick bursts of energy or looks agitated, it indicates the ability to pay attention to details. Kimberly Friedmutter, CHt, hypnotherapist, and author said:

"This person uses this quick, jerky walking style to pivot their attention place to place and thought to thought."

6. Slumped shoulders indicate that the person is self-conscious

Slumped shoulders often indicate sadness in the person. It might be due to past experiences, trauma, or recent disheartening news. If the person's shoulders slump while they walk, with their head slightly bent, then it means they are protecting themselves.

While it is generally not advised to judge a person by their stride, there is no doubt that you can infer a thing or two from a person's walking style. Hopefully, this helps you do better in your interactions.
