We know that dogs remain loyal to their beloved owners even after their demise, but they are not the only animals who show grief and true devotion. Horses have those feelings, too.

The incredible friendship between Wagner Figueiredo de Lima, from Brazil, and his horse, named Sereno, ended abruptly when Lima got into a fatal motorcycle crash.
His funeral was attended by many family members, friends and just people from the local community who knew him. His horse was there to say goodbye, too.
But no one really expected him to show any grief. Sereno surprised everyone when he did that heartfelt act. He approached the coffin and laid his head on top of it as if expressing farewell to Lima.
One of the attendees, Kyioshi Abreu commented:
(The horse) began to walk around the coffin, smelling the coffin. Then he neighed. It was a very strong emotion. Everyone who was there was moved. I cried myself when I saw that scene.
Wando de Lima, Wagner’s brother, said that he was the one to take the stallion to the final ceremony. He told the local reporters that:
This horse was everything to him! It was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye. All the way to the cemetery he would whimper and beat with his paws on the ground.
This video is bringing tears to eyes!
It’s a hard field to study the horses’ range of emotions, especially grief. And while there is no scientific evidence, veterinary behaviourist Gemma Pearson says that horses do feel when they are separated from their owners. They can sense that something is wrong and experience anxiety and their mood shift because of being away from their humans.
People are so inspired by the loyalty of this horse.
It’s beautiful to see that someone could give an animal so much love that they will remain in its heart forever!
