Tia Vargas had no idea what was about to happen on her journey to the 11,106-foot high summit of Table Rock. The 40-year-old mother of three, from Idaho Falls, Idaho, was hiking down the hill, tired after the climb, and came across people who were going up, but found the lost and injured dog with no owner.

Tia Vargas is a real hero

Vargas decided to help. She was going to meet her father, who was waiting for her a mile down.

The collar said the dog’s name was Boomer. The woman placed him on her shoulders and, carrying the 55-pound load, she made it to her dad and surprised him with the unexpected companion. She told People:

He laughed and said, ‘You don’t think this hike is hard enough without carrying a heavy dog, too?

It was not the end of the road, though. The weather conditions went insane, making the hikers struggle with every step. They had to trek through the snow, sliding down the snowy slopes with the hound in tow, then they caught heavy rain and even lost their track twice.

There was a moment when Vargas could not keep walking anymore, as her muscles were sore and she was beyond exhausted.

But they made it to a safe place after 6 miles of the rough terrain. Boomer was treated from a dislocated foot and torn ligaments. The dog was very lucky to meet Tia on his trail.

The woman was blessed with a loyal companion as well. After she contacted the hunting dog’s owner, she found out Boomer had fallen off the 100-feet high hill and had got lost after all.

I feel like there’s a reason why I was on the mountain at the very moment that he needed somebody to help. Both of us had a guardian angel that day.

The pet’s owners had a plan to sell him, but now they decided to let him stay at Vargas', and she could not be happier about the news!
