Perhaps, other than their stately appearance and carriage, the reason they are so respected is their sensitivity.

Similar to a few other animals, like dogs, they can sense danger and they can find safety until it passes more often than not.

Their survival instincts are top-notch, and that is, in no small degree, their saving grace in this story.

California has just experienced the most terrible wildfire, the Camp Fire, in its history.

So far, 48 people have been killed and thousands were evacuated. As the fire raged through Paradise, Northern California, almost the entire town was razed to the ground.

Fearing for the life of this lovely animal, the owners must have set it free in the hope that it would find safety.

The horse ended up in a backyard pool, but it got tangled up in the pool cover and was unable to get out even after the fire raged around him and moved on.

This was when a hero came on the scene. Jeff Hill and his friend had gone to check on someone’s house to see if it was still standing after the fire. While inspecting the grounds, they came upon the poor animal.

In a Facebook post where Hill noted that, among all the sadness the fire had caused, the sight of that particular survivor gave him a glimpse of happiness. Hhe described the horse as shivering uncontrollably and ultimately depleted of all the will to fight.

It was unclear how long the animal had been trapped in the pool, but Hill and his companion got the horse out of the mess. The horse was glad to show his gratitude by ‘loving on them’ in return before walking off, completely unharmed.

From the statements in the comment section, it is clear that the owners of the horse have been located and are grateful for Hill’s kindness.

Hill himself lost everything he had in the fire and set up a GoFundMe page to help rebuild.

One thing we can learn from this is that while we may lose it all, once there is still life and the will to survive, fate will conspire in our favor.
