Having a friend you can rely on is a wonderful thing. People have come to find friendships in other people and sometimes in animals, like dogs and cats.
However, this girl chose to find it in the most unlikely place.
8-year-old Gabi Mann who lives in Seattle has been feeding the local crows in her family's garden for four years.
It all started with Gabi dropped bits of food by accident and noticed the crows rushed them, so she started deliberately leaving treats.
Soon, the crows knew who Gabi was and would gather around her once they saw her, expecting their food.
By 2013, her mother, Lisa Mann, joined the ritual and would prepare extra meals for Gabi to drop off to her friends.
Gifts for Gabi
Soon, the crows started giving Gabi gifts in return. Items like LEGO pieces, buttons, beads, and Gabi's favorite: a heart-shaped pearl.
Gabi holds all these presents dear to her heart and keeps them properly in a bead storage box with labels. She sees them as unique treasures.
“It's showing me how much they love me.”
The crows even got Gabi a tiny piece of metal with the word ‘best’ on it. How beautiful! Her mom wasn’t left out of all the gift giving. The crows found a camera lens that Lisa had misplaced and returned it!
It's awesome that this little girl has found such a fantastic friendship at such a young age, a unique bond that teaches her to appreciate nature. We hope she keeps giving to her friends!
