When dogs are left neglected by their owners, they are affected emotionally and physically. Most of them end of up losing weight and having infections, like mange.

Mange is a contagious skin condition that occurs more commonly in dogs.

The excessive itching is caused by the spread of parasitic mites in dogs skin or hair follicles. The mites have different species which is why the intensity of the itch can vary.

It is a critical medical condition that requires immediate treatment because of its effects. Prolonged mange is a potential skin infection due to the wounds incurred from intense itching.

Nevertheless, it is curable, but it takes a health-conscious effort from the dog's owner or, like in this story, a good Samaritan.

A good Samaritan saved a mange-ridden dog

Sometimes, help comes from where we least expect it. In January 2019, an unknown man noticed Kelly in a remote Utah desert and decided to help.

At first glance, the man couldn't decipher what Kelly was because the rash had gotten critical; she was sunburnt and completely bald.

Regardless of the strange-looking animal, the man got her into his car and drove to a shelter.

Utah Animal Adoption Center was quick to jump to Kelly's aid and offered full support. The shelter manager, Lila Oulson, and her crew began Kelly's treatment with powerful antibiotics and medicated baths.

In a month, the bald dog, who was initially in extreme pain, became beautiful once again! Kelly's new health-condition brought out her sweet and amiable nature.

Oulson described one of Kelly's sweet moments to The Dodo:

“The other day she was in the front office with us, and someone came in with two puppies. She went right to them, licking them and just doting over them. She loves everyone.”

The shelter conducted an online guessing game for Kelly's breed. However, a DNA test discovered that Kelly is a 100 percent Brittany spaniel.

The winner of the game got a package and a meeting with Kelly. Kelly is having a blast!

The shelter is keeping Kelly till she gets spayed and has her teeth cleaned. Oulson is currently reviewing adoption applications and hopes to put Kelly in a home where she will have undivided attention.
