A Regular Small Cat Adopted By An Australian Couple Grew Up To Be The Longest Feline In The World

Date July 2, 2019

The Maine Coon is often referred to as “the gentle giant” because it is one of the largest domesticated breeds of cats. Renowned for its hunting skills and distinctive physical appearance, the Maine Coon is one of the most popular cat breeds in the world.

These large, muscular, and heavy-boned creatures are quite intelligent and exhibit very friendly traits. They also exhibit curious and playful habits.

When Stephanie Hirst from Melbourne, Australia, took a regular-looking little kitten to her house she never expected her feline could be the longest cat on Earth.

Well, meet Omar the cat.

Omar, the 3-year-old Maine Coon kitty, officially measures in at 3 feet 11 inches and weighs 30.8 pounds.

Omar had a normal size for a kitty when Stephy and her boyfriend first got him but, by age one, he had grown to a whopping 22 pounds!

Hirst says she has submitted the measurements to Guinness but the record hasn't yet been confirmed. Stephy admitted:

“He is really good at opening doors, sliding doors, kitchen cupboards, shower doors, wardrobes, he’ll get past all of them."

Interestingly, Omar has quite a unique diet: He eats dry cat food and kangaroo meat. Hirst said:

"We buy human-grade kangaroo meat at the supermarket... it's the only meat we could find that he actually wants to eat."

Omar's popularity exploded since Stephy started an Instagram account for her four-legged friend. The page currently has nearly 130,000 followers.

The woman, however, admitted that because of the attention received the cat has meltdowns, and now staking a claim to fame is "not important" to her.

"Omar is just looking forward to napping on the trampoline, chowing down on some more kangaroo and trying to keep us awake at night... I think he'll be glad to go back to being a normal housecat."

Regardless of the outcome of the application for the record, Omar is a really splendid popular pussycat that won’t let himself get pushed around by other animals, especially dogs. Isn't that great? We hope this story made your day!
