While these rules are necessary to maintain order, they can be overbearing. So, it comes as no surprise that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have flouted some of them since their union, in 2011.

Here are 6 ways the royal couple has broken traditional royal rules.

1. Prince William married a commoner

While the trend of royals marrying commoners is now a norm, in part due to the younger generations of royals, it remains that it isn’t allowed for royals to wed commoners. Usually, royals marry for political reasons, but Kate and William chose love as the drive for their relationship.

2. Kate forgot to curtsey on their wedding day

It seemed Kate got too carried away with the frenzy of her special day that she broke one crucial rule in the process. British etiquette expert William Henson revealed in the Netflix documentary ‘The Royals’ that Kate forgot to curtsey to the Queen as she walked down the aisle.

However, she saved herself on her way out as she did the needful. It was also reported that she ignored the Royal family’s request to style her hair in an up-do manner on her wedding day.

3. Prince William stayed in the delivery room for their three children's birth

Over the years, the tradition of royal fathers not being in the delivery room as remained.

However, the Duke of Cambridge wasn’t interested in being a part of the long-standing custom as he was present in the delivery room with Kate for the birth of his three gorgeous kids.

Usually, for any event, royal members arrive in order of rank with the Queen coming last. However, during the Easter service at St. George’s Chapel in 2018, Kate and Prince William broke this rule as they arrived after the Queen.

It wasn’t entirely their fault as they were stuck in traffic because of the roadworks that were being carried out on M4. The Queen didn’t seem too mad at them, probably because they rarely flout the rules. Who would be angry at such an adorable pair?

5. Physical affection towards members of the public

After Kate’s maternity leave from Prince Louis’ birth, the mother of three returned to the scene with a bang to break some royal rules. During her visit to Basildon Sporting Centre in Essex with her husband, the Duchess couldn’t stop herself from hugging a group of children gathered around her even though it is forbidden. That wasn’t even the worst.

Kate took things further when she received a kiss from a young boy during her and Prince Williams’s visit to Leicester to pay tribute to the victims of the helicopter crash at LCFC’s stadium.

6. PDA sessions

While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge aren’t as open romantically as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, they have had their fair share of PDA moments while out in public.

This is against the rules of the British Royal Family as it is not allowed for members to show affection or touch each other in public.

Although breaking the rules might not be right, we can say William and Kate flouted the laws for the right reasons, and we love them for it.
