From its very beginning, Dirty Dancing was a low-budget movie without a superstar director or a world-known cast. However, when the movie hit the big screens in 1987, the producers and actors understood they'd reached what was almost impossible to reach.
By the end of the 1980s, everyone knew the passionate love story illustrated in Dirty Dancing.
The relationship of handsome dance teacher Johny Castle and Frances Houseman, aka Baby, took the world by storm - and the low-budget movie became the breakthrough of the decade.
No one expected the main star of this dream-like love story to vanish from the spotlight as quickly as she had appeared.
Jennifer Grey was living in the shadows for an incredibly long time. In her interview with People Magazine, she admitted that it happened because of the tragic accident that irreversibly changed her life.
Shortly before the film hit the big screens, Jenny and her boyfriend, Matthew Broderick, decided to go on vacation to Ireland. They didn't know that this innocent idea would end up in a terrible car accident.
Matthew crossed over to the wrong side of the road, killing a local mother and daughter sitting in another car instantly. Matthew suffered a collapsed lung, a concussion, fractured ribs, and a fractured leg, and had to spend 4 weeks in the hospital afterward.

Matthew was charged with dangerous driving, which was eventually reduced to careless driving. Jennifer suffered just minor physical injuries, but her mental scars were enormous.
The impact was emotional and physical. My body was never the same, my head was never the same, my ambition was never the same.
The premiere for the film was several days later, but despite the shocking success of the movie, Jennifer just couldn't bask in the glory and enjoy it.
She knew she would probably never recover from the mental trauma brought by this tragic coincidence. The actress escaped from the spotlight and retired when she was only 27 years old.
Later Jennifer also underwent surgery on her nose, which changed her appearance a bit. Since then, it was difficult to land leading roles as people could no longer recognize Baby from Dirty Dancing.
In the years after the tragic accident, Grey appeared in several TV shows, but nothing more. Fortunately, by 2010, she finally forced her way back into the media, winning the 'Dancing with the Stars' show and becoming a fan favorite again.
In 2018, Jennifer took another step toward the spotlight she left. She is expected to appear in the comedies Red Oaks and Untogether.
Fortunately, after so many years of living in the shadows, the actress found her calling again. We're so happy for you, Jennifer!
