The news of Robbie’s condition surfaced when he was spotted in a wheelchair at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, in London, for the launch of the new Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Ride in Universal Orlando.

A source told The Sun that the actor had been constantly in pain for the last three years. It came as a shock to his numerous fans when the 69-year-old was wheeled out of the Harry Potter event. They were used to seeing him stand strong and tall like his character, Hagrid.

About three years ago, Robbie revealed that the doctors advised him to lose seven stone or risk being crippled. He said:

“I had an exploratory operation, and they discovered I had no cartilage left in one of my knees. It's completely disintegrated.”

Know more about osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage on the ends of the bones wears down over time.

This disorder mostly affects the joints, knees hips and spines. Symptoms of osteoarthritis include pain, tenderness, joint stiffness, and the formation of bone spurs.

Risk factors associated with this disease are old age, obesity, joint injuries, genetics, and bone deformities. It is usually diagnosed through imaging tests and blood tests.

Currently, osteoarthritis cannot be reversed or wholly treated. However, its symptoms can be effectively managed through medication, surgical procedures, physical therapy, and yoga.
