The history of women making an impact in the movie industry wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Audrey Hepburn.

The late British actress, model, and humanitarian became famous for her role in the 1953 movie ‘Roman Holiday’ for which she became the first woman to earn a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA, and an Academy Award for a single performance.

Audrey became one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood, ranked as the third greatest female screen legend by the American Film Institute.

After acting in several films, Audrey devoted the rest of her life to UNICEF, carrying out humanitarian works all over the world. Unfortunately, she passed away in 1993 from appendiceal cancer at the age of 63.

However, Audrey found peace before her demise. She spent the last thirty years of her life in the small town of Tolochenaz, Switzerland. Despite being widely traveled, Audrey found a place to call home in Tolochenaz after moving from Italy.

In that town, she bought an 18th-century farmhouse which she would later call ‘La Paisible’, meaning ‘The Place of Peace’ in French.

As revealed by her first son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, the famous actress was very fond of the house as it granted her a garden, something she always wanted as a kid.

“She remembered feeling butterflies in her body when she saw the house. She said that it felt like she was back home.”

Audrey spent those years doing things she truly loved, which included gardening and tending to her orchard. At some point, she contemplated breeding chicken and rabbits, but that dream never materialized.

The humanitarian became sufficient as she grew everything she wanted. She also had some dogs and a baby deer on the property. She found peace in that little town of fewer than 5,000 people.

Her love for Switzerland was deeply rooted as she requested to be buried in the town’s cemetery, which was close to her house.

The world sure misses Audrey. However, it is refreshing that her last years on earth brought her so much peace. She remains forever in our hearts.
