The beautiful Duchess of Cambridge made a jaw-dropping appearance for a state dinner at Buckingham Palace, and she nailed it! Kate looked resplendent in a blue sleeveless figure-fitting dinner dress by Alexander McQueen.

She then complemented her dress with the iconic Lover's Knot Tiara - a rather historic jewel that has been passed on to members of the royal family for several decades. It is one piece that her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, loved.

The highlight of her look was the pearl necklace and diamond-drop piece which was created in 1860 by Gerrard. The stunning piece features eight large pearls surrounded by diamonds and connected by festoons from the central clusters.

This fascinating piece was Kate Middleton's pick from the royal collection to be worn, on a loan, for a formal dinner meant to celebrate the visit of King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands.

It was reported that it originally belonged to Queen Alexandra and was a gift from her husband, King George VII, to celebrate their wedding in 1863.

The majestic piece has been passed from generation to generation, and now it reportedly belongs to Queen Elizabeth II, who inherited the piece in 2002.

Even Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, was enamored of it. She reportedly wore it during a state banquet honoring the Netherlands back in 1982.

The Queen Mother was also seen in the Lover's Knot Tiara for a formal appearance in 1964. And, in 1987, she wore the piece for her 85th birthday celebration.

Last July, while attending a state dinner for the King and Queen of Spain, Kate Middleton wore a light pink Marchesa dress with the Lover's Knot Tiara. It seems the piece has become one of her favorites, as well.
