The actor went online to solicit the help of his over 19 million followers on Twitter to sign a petition for the release of the 5 baby walrus, 11 orcas, and 90 baby belugas kept in cruel conditions so that they could be sold to Chinese aquariums

So far the online petition has received 900,000 signatures and has caught the attention of the Russian President; Vladimir Putin.

Even though Russian prosecutors opened a case to check the health conditions of the animals last year, the President has given an order to determine the fate of the animals immediately.

As a result, the Ministry of Agriculture and Ecology are doing all they can to release the animals. The Minister of Ecology, Dmitry Kobylkin, said:

“We are doing everything we can, no one objects to releasing the orcas, but the most important thing is to release them properly.”

The whales are set to be released soon, but the cold weather condition now has made it difficult.

Four companies have been charged with breaking the fishing laws by Russia's Federal Security Service, but the problem is that Russia has no direct ban on hunting and capturing marine animals.

Therefore, other whales might still be in danger of being caught and kept in cramped conditions.

It is important that we make the world a better place. We all need to join hands together to ensure that no more animals are subjected to such conditions.

We hope that these marine animals are sent to their natural habitat sooner rather than later.
