Jaden's company, Just Goods, is collaborating with the church to design the system. The church had already been working towards helping the people of Flint by donating millions of bottled water to them but this has been on the decline.
It was reported that thanks to Jaden's efforts, the church will be able to provide water from The Water Box from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m on Thursdays and residents are urged to bring their containers.
Flint has had issues with clean water availability since lead-tainted water was discovered in 2014. That year, the city built a new pipeline to deliver water from Lake Huron to Flint.
While this pipeline was being constructed, the city received water from the Flint River. Soon after they made the switch, residents of Flint reported that the water began to look, smell and taste unusual.
Ingesting lead-contaminated water can be very dangerous. According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, lead consumptions can have harmful effects on the kidneys, heart and, nerves.
In children, the side effects may include impaired cognition, hearing problems, delayed puberty and behavioral issues. So we can see why many people are hailing Jaden Smith for doing what he can to help those living in Flint.
Kudos to this young actor for showing such dedication and selflessness to helping others. From the sound of things, the residents of Flint desperately need proper intervention so that they have access to clean water.
