September 11, 2001, is a day every American will always remember. They shall remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they learned about the planes flying into the Twin Towers.

It was a devastating day for non-Americans, too: people jumped out of buildings, confused children watched as adults cry and there was chaos everywhere as everyone tried to either survive or find out if their loved ones did. Such tragedies affect everyone.

One woman, Jenny Lee, who was there at the time said:

I was really touched that the Queen had done this. Even though I’m so many miles from home, I feel that Britain is really with us on this one.

About a week later, Queen Elizabeth sent a message to the country. In the text which was read by the British ambassador in Washington, Sir Christopher Meyer, the Queen expressed her sadness for the heartbreaking event.

She condoled with the Britons who were affected by the New York attack while also grieving for all the victims.
