Michael J. Fox And Tracy Pollan Share A Personal Secret To Successful Marriage As They Celebrate 30 Years Together

Date August 28, 2018

They met on set of the sitcom Family Ties, in 1985: Michael J Fox, the young ambitious actor with a mischievous smile, and Tracy Pollan, a classy young woman who played his girlfriend. It was hard not to fall in love when you are so attracted to each other and act romance. However, the pair started dating only two years later, while starring in Bright Lights, Big Cities in 1987.

Fox revealed

Before Tracy and I started seeing each other, I was this boy prince of Hollywood. I had a Mercedes and a Ferrari and a Range Rover, and I was really nuts.

The actor felt she was the one, and the whirlwind romance brought the couple to the doors of Vermont's West Mountain Inn a year later, where they said the vows and promised to be together in sickness and health.

30 years ago, they tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony. Today, they are still madly in love. In an interview to People, the couple revealed the secret of their long-lasting marriage.

Tracy admitted:

Just give each other the benefit of the doubt. He assumes I’m doing the best I can.

Michal shared his own tip to the lifetime of happiness:

Find the best things about you and the best things about life and celebrate them.

Despite their differences, they found common ground and made it work as an advantage for their relationship. Fox is Episcopalian, while Pollan is Jewish. He dropped off college to chase the Hollywood dream, and she had a degree in the Lee Strasberg Institute.

But, still, life hasn’t been a smooth ride for the lovebirds. In 1991, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, just two years after his first baby son had been born.

The disease affected his motor skills dramatically, caused tremor and stillness, thereby discouraging him to pursue his acting career. He kept working on television, though, and had a number of voice covering projects.

The darkest period of his life was marked with alcohol addiction and a loss of purpose, but it was his wife who drew him back into the real world. However, Tracy said she had to adjust their life to Michael’s diagnosis:

A lot of my adjustment has been dictated by Michael's point of view. He's so relaxed and so accepting of where he is, and that makes it easier for me, the kids, and everyone around him.

The couple built a strong family and raised a son and three daughters together: Sam, 29, Schuyler and Aquinnah, 23, and Esmé, 16.

The way they hold on to each other and keep strengthening their wonderful family makes us wow with admiration! The couple’s 30th wedding anniversary is a celebration of their unconditional love and devotion to each other in sickness and health.
