The duo has been together since their university days managed to stick to each other through thick and thin.

While many of us are usually swept away by their adorable PDA moments, things were not so easy for Kate at first, especially in regard to William’s close circle.

According to the royal author Andrew Morton, Kate was treated ‘abominably’ by William’s aristocratic friends when their relationship became public in 2006.

They had a sense of reservation about her and believed she wasn’t the right fit for a Royal like William. An excerpt of his book, 'William and Catherine', reads:

“While she was seen as a ’pretty and sensible’ girl, there were those in royal and aristocratic circles who believed that the Middletons were too middle-of-the-road for the House of Windsor.”

This was because it was expected of William to find a bride among the European royalty or aristocracy. Andrew likened Kate’s struggle to fit in with that of William’s late mother, Princess Diana, who hadn't been a royal either.

However, Kate’s plight was much worse because Diana still had a title, lived in a stately home, and had the Royal Family as her neighbors. Kate’s mother, Caroline Middleton, felt the sneers and jabs of William's friends.

They believed that Kate didn’t have the ‘breeding’ to become a Queen.

However, William’s friends weren’t the only ones that had something to say about Will and Kate. When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had their brief split in 2007, many of Kate’s friends were pleased about it and sighed a breath of fresh air.

Luckily, it would seem William and Kate favored their love over the opinion of their friends and chose to be together nevertheless. The world of royal fans is indeed grateful for that decision!
