Barbra Streisand And Michael Buble Joined Forces For ‘It Had To Be You’ And It Has Left Fans Breathless
The song itself may be familiar to some of us, but what do you know about how it came to be?
It Had To Be You
The song was written by Isham Jones and Gus Khan in1924. This was shortly after Jones's wife gifted him a baby piano for his 30th birthday.
Jones, according to a report, stayed up all night, trying for different sounds till he came up with a few melodies, one of them being the ballad that became It Had To Be You.
Khan later added the lyrics, and the song was an instant hit. It was a hot number that year and it was covered by Paul Whiteman and Marion Harris, amongst others.
In the years that followed, various other artists including Ruth Etting, Betty Hutton, Dick Haymes & Helen Forrest, Benny Goodman, and Barbra Streisand gave their own amazing renditions.
In the early 1940s, Frank Sinatra performed the song with the Tom Dorsey's orchestra. It, however, wasn't included in any of his albums until the 1980's Trilogy: Past, Present, Future.
Barbra Streisand and Michael Buble's duet
Michael Buble is the owner of one of the best selling Christmas albums of all time and he is a fantastic artist in his own right.
Despite having millions of fans and receiving several awards, one thing was missing: He wanted to sing with Barbra Streisand.
His chance of a lifetime came when Barbra Streisand invited him to perform the enduring ballad with her. Naturally, he was very excited!
Michael had never met Barbra, one of his childhood idols. As a way of breaking the ice, he moved up behind her and joked that it was the cheapest recording session he'd had because she was paying for it.
The joke was an attempt to soothe his frayed nerves. Streisand noted how nervous he was and tried to ease his nerves.
She intended to use his big band music style in their rendition, combined with the original ballad style.
Barbra Streisand maintained that live music was one of the essential elements for creating good music, so, as they took their booths, the orchestra boomed behind them.
Listening to the final version, one can only appreciate the level of expertise and talent it took to pull off the amazing rendition.
The fans loved it!
The video posted on YouTube has been viewed more than 2 million times and has been given countless positive comments.
Many internet users commented on how amazing it is that, at her age, Barbra Streisand can still sing as amazingly as she does.
Others were happy that Michael Buble finally got to sing with one of his musical idols.
Needless to say, Barbra Streisand and Michael Buble's rendition of the popular ballad is priceless and fans are very thankful for their effort!
