The Age of the Golden Girls

Although her career spans decades, most people know her for the role she played on the NBC hit show ‘Golden Girls’, which ran from 1985 to 1992. She played the role of Rose Nylund, and the show revolved around the lives of four older women who lived in a Miami apartment together.

It won a Primetime Emmy Award twice and three Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

Each of the four actresses also won an Emmy, making it one of three sitcoms in the award’s history to have ever earned that reputation.

Betty’s big revelation

The 97-year-old can easily be seen as a loving grandma due to her infectious smile and warm disposition. Therefore, it is difficult to think that someone does not like this American sweetheart.

However, while speaking to HNL’s Joy Behar, Betty revealed that one of her ‘Golden Girls’ colleagues did not particularly like her. It was none other than Bea Arthur.

She said with the look of one who is perplexed:

“Bea was not that fond of me. I don’t know what I ever did. I don’t know. But she was not that thrilled with me. But, I loved Bea, and I admired her.”

The interview focused on the fun times while working on the show, and she went on to express surprise at the fact that she is the only cast member still alive, though she was the oldest.

Interestingly, she was a year older than Estelle Getty, who acted as Bea Arthur’s character’s mother. Funny, right?

We suppose nature merely has looked upon the amazing actress kindly or, perhaps, she has led a lyfestule that guaranteed she would still be going strong.

Betty’s long-life span regimen

To live to be almost a 100 years is no easy feat, but the comedian, actress and producer, who was born in 1922, boasts of great health.

In an interview with Parade, she let the world in on her little secret to living long and healthily. She said:

“Enjoy life. Accentuate the positive, not the negative.”

On her diet, she explained that she loves French fries, hot dogs. Quite an unusual combination and some dieticians may frown at it, but, well, it works for her.

Betty White is indeed the stuff of legends, and we are glad that she is still strong and healthy. We hope she is around much longer!
