Royal Expert Claims That Prince Philip Deliberately Snubbed Charles After Prince Harry's Birth

Date July 12, 2019 01:45

On July 6, royal baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor finally had his highly anticipated christening at the Windsor Castle, and it was a delight! The Sussex family shared photos via their Instagram page the following day to announce the news.

In the pictures, baby Archie can be seen wearing the trademark royal christening gown, and significant members of the royal family were all present including Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Charles and Camilla. Meghan's mother, Doria, was present as well.

Grandfather Prince Charles was all smiles in the photos released. One could easily tell that he was thrilled to witness the arrival of his fourth grandchild.

However, it was a different story at Prince Harry's christening: Prince Philip waited six weeks to see his grandson because of a feud with Prince Charles.

The royal feud

According to Vanity Fair, the conflict between Prince Charles and his father dates as far back as 1982.

Prince Philip and the Queen weren't happy about Charles' stepping away from the spotlight and neglecting his royal duties, all in the name of running away from the public’s obsession with Diana.

This led to several disputes between father and son and made Philip hold a grudge against Charles.

It got so bad that Prince Philip didn't deem it fit to see Prince Charles after the birth of his grandson, Prince Harry. As stated by Tina Brown, who wrote the Vanity Fair article at the time:

“Relations between father and son these days are so strained that when Prince Charles walks into a room, Prince Philip walks out of it. He expressed his displeasure by not visiting Prince Harry until six weeks after the birth.”

It seems Prince Philip, however, does not extend this displeasure to his grandkids. The Duke of Edinburgh was one of the first royals to see baby Archie.

During Archie's debut to the world, Meghan and Harry revealed that they had bumped into him in the hallway. Unfortunately, he couldn’t be present for Archie’s christening.

Also, he was there when Harry and Meghan introduced Archie to Queen Elizabeth.

The correlation between the father's and the son's christening

Although it is still quite early, we can already see some similarities between baby Archie and his father, Prince Harry. In addition to their dashing looks, let's inspect some other similarities that were noticeable during the christening.

  • The pair wore the same royal robe, the signature handmade replica of the Royal Christening Robe.

  • They both had their christening at the Windsor Castle.

  • Even baby Archie's pose was similar to Prince Harry's posture back then. The trademark look was staring off to the side and holding on to their mother.

Hopefully, Prince Philip and Prince Charles have let go of their feud for the sake of the young generation of royals and their own father-son relationship.
