Princess Diana was guilty of this unhealthy disposition toward her children, William and Harry. Richard Kay, a royal commentator who was close to Princess Diana, revealed that it wasn't so from the beginning.

The mother, who has always been celebrated for her closeness to her sons, once gave the boys an equal amount of love. She tried to make their upbringing as normal as possible, even telling the palace staff to only call them by their first names and not ‘Prince’ or ‘His Royal Highness.’

Princess Diana and her husband, Prince Charles, worked hard to ensure both boys received an equal amount of their time and love, but others in the family seemed to concentrate on William.

Therefore, Diana felt Harry needed more attention. As William would be king one day, it seemed that he had been marked for some special attention. As compensation, Diana poured more love and attention into Harry.

Young Harry had laid a complaint about the unfair treatment meted out on him by their great-grandmother. Whenever he and William visited her at Clarence House, it was always William she made a fuss over and who sat next to her. Then, just maybe, Princess Diana's preference for Harry is justified.

In 2007, on the 10th anniversary of his beloved mom's death, Harry called her the ‘best mother in the world.’ He recounted how she never allowed her unflattering love for them to go unspoken.

William had previously spoken about how heartbroken he felt that his mother never got to meet her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He keeps pictures of his mother around his house and regularly tells stories about her to his children.
