Raising children is the biggest responsibility a person can ever take. It is both challenging and joyful, but all in all, it is the most rewarding experience of all.

The former first lady has two daughters, 16-year-old Sasha and 19-year-old Malia, and she is extremely proud of them. On the United State of Women summit, Michelle spoke about the problems of modern upbringing, the gender roles, and opened up about her own parenting tips.

Completely catching the audience’s attention, Obama gave the highlight of her own vision on teaching the young generation of women. Her pieces of advice would be priceless for parents who raise daughters.

1. The mother-daughter connection is extremely strong. Michelle credits her mother Marian Robinson for her own success, recalling her words “I wasn’t raising children. I was raising adults.” This was a wise approach. Treating your children like adults from the start teaches them more about real life and provides them with the unique experience they will need in future.

2.Michelle and her brother were always included “in big grown-up conversations”. She encourages all parents to be frank with their children and get them involved in the family’s decisions making.

3. Don’t ever be judgmental, and show your children that they can come and talk to you about anything! Honesty and trust are the best policy in mother-daughter relationships.

4. Obama is joking about the mom’s face, as the crowd responds with laughter. "You have to get that mom face right. It’s like ‘Oh, did that happen? Okay, tell me more.'" Do not give away your reaction too soon, let them finish the story.

5. Michelle explains that the family is where everything starts! Young women have to learn how to use arguments correctly, how to prove the point and defend their own interests. If they learn to do that with parents at the dinner table, they can do it anywhere.

6. It is important to teach your daughters to ignore the social standards and stereotypes and dream big, because everything is possible!

Michelle was so inspirational sharing her wisdom, but when someone from the crowd shouted that she should run for the Office, she responded in the most amazing way.

When I hear people say 'you run,' it's part of the problem. We still didn't get 'Yes, we can' right. It's not, 'Yes, you can,' it's 'Yes, we can.'"

This is the main thing we have to understand, as Obama explains, the changes start from you, and we have to embed this idea into a little girl’s head. She can reach any height she wants. However, the parents’ impact in childhood and the teen years is paramount and it molds the child. So to see her fly, we have to give her wings.
