Shaming a person for their physical appearance is bad enough, but then shaming someone for their name? And little girl for that matter? That is quite insensitive.
Traci Redford accused a Southwest airline agent of shaming her daughter because of her peculiar name; ‘Abcde’ which is pronounced as ‘Ab-city.’
The agent did not just laugh out loud in public, she also took a picture of the boarding pass right in front of Traci and posted the image on her Facebook for others to ridicule.
This happened a few weeks ago when Abcde, the little girl who has epilepsy, and her mother were about to board a flight in John Wayne International Airport in Orange County, Florida, back home to El Paso, Texas.
When recounting the event, Redford said that the gate agent laughed and pointed at her and her daughter, while talking to other employees.
Name shaming? This Texas woman claims a @SouthwestAir agent made fun of her 5-year-old daughter's name as they were preparing to board their flight at @JohnWayneAir in Orange County.— Veronica Miracle (@ABC7Veronica) November 28, 2018

She revealed that her daughter felt confused by the situation and wondered why the airline agent was mocking her name. Traci then took action to warn the agent to stop making fun of Abcde politely.
Traci Redford also mentioned that the demeaning Facebook post was brought to her attention and she reported this insulting incidence to the airlines.
Although two weeks had passed since a formal complaint was made without a response from Southwest Airlines, they later gave the Redfords a statement saying:
We extend our sincere apology to the family. We take great pride in extending our Southwest Hospitality to all of our Customers, which includes living by the Golden Rule and treating every individual with respect, in person or online. The post is not indicative of the care, respect, and civility we expect from all of our Employees.
They claimed that they had followed up on the employee responsible but didn't mention whether any disciplinary action was taken.
It’s sad that little Abcde had to be a victim of insensitive employees. Hopefully, something drastic is done to make sure such a situation never happens again.
