Bed bugs? More like plane bugs
Heather Szilagyi, her fiance Eric Neilson and her 7-year-old daughter, Molly, boarded a flight with British Airways from Canada to Slovakia earlier this month.
Expecting a comfortable plane ride, both mother and daughter were disappointed in their expectations as they were covered in bed bugs bites.
Szilagyi posted a picture of her daughter’s legs on her Twitter, showing how badly the bed bugs had bitten Molly’s skin.
In an interview with Canadian CTV news, the angered mother said she had noticed the bugs on the seat in front of her, and behind a TV monitor.
Heather works in a hotel and her years of experience immediately allowed her to recognize the insects.
She alerted the flight attendants, they apologized but said there was nothing that could be done as the flight was full.
”It was nine hours of knowing that I was probably going to get bit, but not being sure.”
Szilagyi revealed that she and her daughter are extremely sensitive to insects bites. On landing, she immediately disinfected their belongings to prevent them from spreading further.

It was then she noticed the bites all over her daughter’s body. Heather also had bites on her hands, waistline, and neck.
British Airways has apologized to Heather and her daughter and even offered to upgrade their return flight from family to business class.
Signs of bedbugs bites
It is easy to mistake a bed bug bite for other insects. Here are the symptoms of a bed bug bite:
- Itchy skin;
- Burning sensation on the skin;
- It can lead to swelling and bleeding.

If you notice a bed bug bite, disinfect all your clothes and use an anti-itch cream on the affected area.
Let’s all be mindful of these little creatures as they cause a lot of harm. Hopefully, the airline does better to eradicate bedbugs from their planes.
