Boy Who Literally Died For "3-5 Minutes" Gets Surprise Private Graduation Ceremony From His School

Tiffany Hosay experienced every parent's worst nightmare when her son, Matthew, medically died for a couple of minutes during surgery.

Matthew was born with a condition known as Cystic Fibrosis. Since birth, he had had to undergo a series of surgeries but this never held him back. He grew up to be very smart and succeed in school.

At the age of 10, another surgery had to be performed on him to take out some unhealthy parts of his intestines. His reaction to the induction drugs was so intense that they nearly lost him.

Tiffany, who shared this story with LoveWhatMatters said:

He died for 3-5 minutes on the surgery table. After this surgery, he was in a complete vegetative state.

Matthew's quality of life following the surgery dropped drastically. He needed to re-learn how to do everything all over again including walking and feeding himself.

It took months of physical therapy and rehabilitation for them to see progress. He also could no longer be in the same class in school anymore. He had to continue his education in special classes.

It was a massive adjustment and it didn't help that Matthew, who still needed to go through several procedures, spent a lot of his time at the hospital.

Matthew was supposed to graduate on May 30, 2018, but his health was getting worse. On May 21, he was taken to the hospital and his parents were told he needed to be admitted.

After 13 years of working hard and giving his all at school, Matthew's mother hated for him to miss the big day.

Matthew's parents called his teacher and explained why the boy would not be attending graduation. Within 24 hours, the school was able to set up a private ceremony for the boy.

The event took place on May 22. His family, friends and school officials were there to celebrate with him. His parents were incredibly grateful to North Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia, for putting together such a memorable day on such short notice - just for their son.
