A grieving woman has found a way to honor her late fiance on the day that their wedding was supposed to take place.
Jessica Padgett thought she and the love of her life, Kendall Murphy, would spend the rest of their lives together. Sadly, fate had different plans. In November 2017, Kendall, a volunteer firefighter, passed away after being hit by a vehicle on the way to rescue a stranger in need.
Jessica, who shared her story with LoveWhatMatters, revealed that on the night of November 10, when he passed, she had been with him earlier. They had hung out and she left a little later for her own home.
She texted him that she had arrived safely and, then, he sent a message back. However, when she sent him another message, she did not get a reply. She had assumed he had fallen asleep and was about to do so as well when she received a heartbreaking phone call from her father.
A couple of hours after Jessica left Kendall's place, he received a call about an accident not far from his home. He dropped everything to go check on the scene, Jessica explained, because that was just the kind of guy he was.
Kendall arrived at the accident scene and was about to cross over to the other side of the road to save a drunk driver that had fallen in a ditch when he was hit by another alleged drunk driver.
Jessica was devastated to learn about her fiance's death and she dreaded what she would do when the date they had chosen for their wedding came around.
On September 29, 2018, Jessica wore the wedding dress she had planned to wear for her nuptials and Mandi Knepp, of Loving Life Photography, helped her commemorate this special day.
She visited his grave with her family and appreciated everyone's love and support. She said:
Having all my loving family and friends there to support and comfort me at this tragic time of my life means more than they will ever know. It was the worst day of my life, but they made my day very special.
Jessica described her late fiance as a "family man" who loved to spend time with his parents, sister, and nieces. No doubt, she missed him terribly.
Not a day goes by I don’t think of Kendall. He will forever be in my heart! I love and miss you.
Jessica sure found a beautiful way to honor his memory and it was very sweet that both their families were there to offer their love and support.
