'All I Ever Wanted Was The Chance To Be A Parent': Couple Loses 4 Unborn Babies In 6 Years But 5th Pregnancy Reveals Quadruplets
After their four first tries ended up in heartbreaking disappointment, Allyson and Tony Ponto decided to try in vitro fertilization (IVF). As Allyson's conceiving chances were as small as 30 percent, doctors implanted 3 embryos for good measure.
After going through 10 years of fertility problems and four miscarriages, the Minnesota-based woman braced herself for IVF, even though she didn't expect it to work. She could never have imagined, however, how well it would turn out for the couple.
When Allyson had an ultrasound 6 weeks after the IVF, the scan revealed an unbelievable fact: It showed not 1 or 2, but 3 babies! The couple was overjoyed!
Then, the doctor looked at the surprised soon-to-be parents and said: 'No... not exactly.' It turns out that the scan showed, in fact, 4 babies. The couple was expecting quadruplets, including identical twins. It was too good to be true!
Out of nearly 4 million births in the U.S., only 228 sets of quadruplets were born, which meant that the couple was going to join a very exclusive club.
That 10-year struggle with fertility was worth it, as very soon Tony and Allyson would become the first-time parents of 4 beautiful girls!
After almost 11 years of heartbreak, pain, and never-ending devastation, Tony and Allyson welcomed 4 baby girls, all hale and hearty, on July 4, 2017.
Olivia, Morgan, Carolyn, and Anna were delivered by C-section in as few as 4 minutes! The smallest baby was Anna, weighing just 2 pounds, 7 ounces. The largest was Carolyn, born at 3 pounds, 8 ounces. Ironically, baby Anna was the strongest.
There's no doubt it was a complicated journey to parenthood for the Pontos. Allyson went through a series of fertility treatments and even five rounds of intrauterine insemination (IUI), but nothing had worked.
Allyson couldn't help but cry before every single baby shower she was invited to because she wondered: 'Why not us? Are we not worthy of children?’
Fortunately, after a single round of IVF, Allyson saw 2 miracle-like pink lines. This rocky path that lead to such long-awaited family happiness makes her cry every day now, for different reasons.
All the girls are happy, healthy, and thriving. This family story is just as beautiful as Allyson and Tony's four miracle girls. Some achievements come at a price, and this couple knows it better than anyone else.
