Over the years, there has been an evolution in the area of gender identity and expression.

With the birth of transgenders, cross-dressers and many more, it’s hard for parents to tell when their kids are simply kids or when they are asserting their identity.
While at a point kids are expected to dabble in activities of the opposite gender, a constant occurrence of such activities might point to them being transgenders.

If, for example, your son prefers putting on dresses all the time, you should pay attention. While you might totally accept the change, it is advised that you assure your child of your unconditional love and support.
The transgender boy
As reported by Daily Mail, a three-year-old boy was dressed in a girl’s uniform shortly after he was sent to live with foster parents, whose biological son transitioned at the age of 7.

Despite the school informing the foster parents, known only as CP and TP, that he should be clothed in male uniforms, they chose to dress him otherwise.
The couple was investigated by the Lancashire County Council’s social services, as they were accused of manipulating the young boy to become a transgender like their son.
CP and TP have fostered 5 children in total, of which 2 were their biological kids. Their youngest child, who is known as R, began his transitioning process at the age of 7.

When it happened, his parents immediately took legal steps to firm up her new identity, change her name by deed poll and get a new passport.
Shortly afterward, a boy named H was fostered by the family, and by the age of 3, he had begun dressing in girl’s clothing.

Proceedings began in July 2018 to remove all five children from their custody, but the council stopped the process for reasons unknown. While speaking to the news agency, Mr. Justice Williams, based in the Family Division of the High Court in London, said:
“I observed during the course of the hearing that issues relating to gender identity and the medical understanding of such issues is complex and developing.”

Tips for transgender parents
Although it can be frustrating for any parent to realize that their child is transgender, it can be handled without too much pain.
1. Take a deep breath and calm down;
2. Confirm that your child is truly transgender and not just confused about their gender identity;

3. Free yourself from negative beliefs imposed by society and start to educate yourself on what it means to be transgender.
Regardless of your child’s gender, they deserve all the love in the world. However, the choice to change their sex should solely depend on them, and not because you believe they should.
