Child abuse is a phenomenon that has haunted the world for a long time now.

To complicate things, abuse can be in various forms, and each type is intended to hurt the victim in different ways. It can be physical, sexual, emotional, and even abandonment.

Unfortunately, it is challenging to detect child abuse because the kid possibly doesn't know what's going on and the abusers are usually cunning.

This fact makes us question the man who tried to pawn his child, but later claimed that it was a 'social media prank.'

Alleged prank

These days, it is appalling to see the length at which people would go to be noticed on social media. Sarasota police recently crossed paths with a similarly wild person.

A store owner, Richard Jordan, got the Sarasota police involved when a supposed father tried to pawn his baby off to him.

This exchange happened at the A&F Pawn Jewelry and Loan on North Washington Boulevard.

The CCTV caught the father saying this to Jordan:

"This is what I got, I know no one under 18 in here, but he's barely used, 7 and a half months old, what do you think he's worth?"

The Sarasota police uploaded the footage so that they could sniff the perpetrator out. However, he called the local authorities himself.

The 43-year-old Sarasota man, Brian Slocum, said the clip was only a Snapchat prank and nothing more.

He allegedly has his own copy of the video which he plans to upload.

According to him, the joke was mainly about the store owner's reaction to his ridiculous request. Apparently, Jordan didn't find it funny at all.

As reported by Cafe Mom, Slocum apologized for wasting the time and effort of the Sarasota police because he didn't think it would get to that.

The law enforcement agents have investigated the matter and discovered that the child is safe, but they are still keeping a close watch on the situation.

How to be a good dad

It is essential for children to have a healthy relationship with their dad, as much as with their mother. Here are some qualities of what make up the bases for being a good dad:

1. Be there for your child;

2. Keep your promises;

3. Enjoy family time;

4. Respect your partner;

5. Be a role model for your child;

6. Be conversant and observant.

What Slocum did is unforgivable even it was a prank because no child deserves to be treated that way. Hopefully, parents will learn to do better!
