Older people usually have it harder in that stage in their life. They can no longer do most of the things they used to on their own and, unfortunatley, they are often lonely.
Some of the people they grew up with, or had come to love, are no longer alive. Thoughts like this can sometimes lead them into depression.
On the other hand, little children are the exact opposite. They are just starting to find out how much they can do and they make new friends on a daily basis.
The world is very exciting for them. So, what happens when you pair agile little children with frail elder people? Will it have positive effect on them?
The British documentary Old People Home For 4 Years Olds decided to put the theory to the test at Lark Hill, a retirement home to hundreds of people.
10 four-year-old kids were paired with 10 older people between the ages of 81-102. They were to live together and interact with one another.
4-year-old Lily was paired up with Ken Pidcock, an 87 year old widower who had become extremely bitter after he had lost the love of his life to cancer 5 years before.
He was so sad that he hadn't even left Lark in almost 2 years. It seemed like he had nothing else to live for. All that changed when he met bouncy Lily, who had exchanged his fries for her vegetables.
The two kicked it off on the spot and became besties. This greatly improved Ken's desire to go out, as he always willing to go on an adventure with his new best friend.
Lily celebrated her birthday and they enjoyed tea and cake. Surprisingly Ken's birthday had just been a few weeks earlier so they had a double celebration.
Ken's mood has positively changed for the better and even his mental health is soaring higher and higher.
Obviously, the theory was spot on! Watch the video and see some sweet moments between little Lily and her best friend Ken.
Viewers all over the internet have been clamouring that this program should be implemented in other retirement homes because it was such a win! We agree, what about you?
