A soldier in the forests of Estonia came across a beautiful moose who seemed to be in need of help. And the military man was happy to oblige.
Erich Jyri Prikko, a member of the Estonian defense force, ventured into the woods one day during his military exercises.
Speaking to The Dodo, Prikko said that, while he was looking for an 'alternative bathroom' in the forest, he heard a sound that caught his attention.
Initially, he thought it was a cat or even a small baby so he decided to check it out. However, before he could look further, a 'cute animal' walked towards him. Prikko was taken aback when he realized he was looking at a baby moose. He said:
At first, he reminded me a dog, but pretty quickly I realized it was a small baby moose trying to tell me something.
The moose was a bit wary of the soldier. Not wanting to make the creature even more stressed, Prikko calmly sat down where he was and watched the baby moose.
He hoped the little one's mom would come around soon, or that the baby moose would go on in search of her, but Prikko did not expect what happened next.
The moose walked towards the soldier. The animal was unsure and understandably shy but, as he realized Prikko was trustworthy, he got really close to the soldier.
When the moose was close enough, he began using his mouth to poke around at Prikko's armpit. It was pretty evident that the animal was hungry and looking for milk. Even though the moose did not find what he was looking for, he was still comforted by the soldier's presence.
Feeling the need to help more, the military man called the veterinary offices and they advised him to leave the moose alone but monitor the situation from a safe distance to see if the animal's mother would come. They did dispatch a vet to the scene with some milk just in case the mother did not come around.
Prikko was heartbroken about leaving the moose all alone, but he knew it was for the best. If he had stayed too close, he might have spooked the animal's mother away. The soldier maintained a safe distance but still kept an eye on his new friend.
Sure enough, the moose's mother came around and they both pranced off into the sunset together.
