This powerful song is an ultimate hymn for the holiday, and there is hardly anyone who doesn’t love this simple yet catchy tune.
The traditional Christmas carol, in Mariah Carey's rendition, seems to gain special charm. It brings back memories of warm family gatherings around Christmas time and praying for peace and wellbeing.
The carol has been around for since mid 19th century. Its history began in France. At first, French wine merchant and poet Placide Cappeau wrote the poem "Minuit, chrétiens", which means Midnight, Christians.

In 1847, composer Adolphe Adam wrote the music and turned those lyrics into the song.

Emily Laurey, an opera singer, was the first to perform the carol and she made it famous. A few years later, an English version came out. The catchy melody and the deep meaning of the words quickly found their listeners.
And ever since, we have been singing “O Holy Night”, hoping for another Christmas miracle and for peace in our souls.
We all look above to the sky, and whisper: “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices.”
