Teenage Girl Leaves A Wise Message On The Back Of Her Mirror To Be Discovered After Her Death
13-year-old girl Athena Orchard passed away due to cancer and left her parents heart-broken. Later, when they were rearranging the stuff in her room, they found something special that made them feel their little girl was still with them.
The standing mirror in Athena’s room was set against the wall, so no one ever took a glimpse on its back.
Her parents, Dean and Caroline, discovered a hidden message – almost 3000 words written with a marker pen.
Athena’s words were filled with optimism and love for life, despite all the hardship the teenage girl endured during her short life. "If someone loves you, then they wouldn't let you slip away no matter how hard the situation is.”
"You could get a life-ending illness tomorrow so make the most of every day. Life is only bad if you make it bad."
Athena had an aggressive type of cancer that developed very quickly. The doctors diagnosed her with osteosarcoma in her spine, left shoulder and head.
The seven and a half surgeries to remove the tumor from her spine, and endless chemotherapy sessions, could not save the girl. “Maybe it is not about the happy ending, it is about the story”.
As the mother, Caroline, reads her daughter’s notes during a interview to BBC, she can’t hold back her tears. It is hard to believe that girl was just 13, as her writing expressed so much maturity and wisdom.
“I am glad it was me, not any of my sisters or brothers” – Athena said to her mom, as Caroline recalls. She was a girl with a huge heart!
Losing a child is a terrible experience that leaves a black hole in your heart. But due to this mirror writing, Athena’s family can feel her presence, even though she is not with them anymore.
"Life is a game for everyone but love is the only prize."
