94-Year-Old Man Greets School Children Every Morning For Years Just To Set Them For A Good Day With A Fist Bump

Date August 28, 2018

Sometimes, the only thing that can light up one's day is a word of kindness and encouragement. It’s especially relevant for school kids, who are in the process of building their self-image, discovering their own identities, finding friends and first love. In a world of selfishness, there are still people who care, like this 94-year old man named Wally.

The Facebook mom found out about the “cute old man” who greets middle school students every morning, setting them up for new accomplishments.

Gina Michelle shared the story on LoveWhatMatters, saying that seeing a man following this morning ritual was “one of the coolest things” she had ever seen. Her daughter, Audrey, said:

He stands at the steps where you drop me off and encourages all the students as they walk in. He talks about kindness and gives us advice and fist bumps! It’s the best part of the day.

This is the kind of story that makes you believe in humanity and optimism! Gina wrote:

When my daughter told me about Wally on the way to school today my heart felt full and happy. He is a man I aspire to be like every day and maybe even one day do as he does in my retirement.

Frank Somerville from KTVU, inspired by the story, talked to the man and discovered that his life had always been on the edge between life and death. Wally served as a fighter pilot during World War II and took part in the Korean war later on.

His strong spirit must be the very thing that kept him alive through danger.

Wally is an example of true optimism and passion for life! Every morning, he shares his energy with those students, who need love and support more than anything else.

Gina, amazed by the man’s big heart, wrote a pleading message: “In a world full of hurt and discouragement, be a Wally.”
