Meet Darius

Born on May 13, 1966, in Charleston, this outh Carolina native has been on the music scene since 1986.

It may interest you to know that he founded Hootie and the Blowfish back in his college days, at the University of South Carolina.

He co-wrote many songs that kept all the six albums released by the band among the top of the Billboard Hot 100 between 1994-2005.

The three-time Grammy award winner has collaborated with top artists like Lionel Richie, Jill Scott, and Adele.

He released a solo album in 2001 and, over the years, the singer and songwriter transioned wonderfully from R&B to country music.

When he made the crossover into the genre, he recorded a streak of No. 1 hits in the country music chart, in 2009.

Being more than an entertainer, he has been involved in philanthropy, most especially at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston, where he serves on the board and where his mother worked for 30 years, before her demise in 1992.

What does God want for Christmas?

Darius' musical genius was brought to bear once more by his inspiring single, 'What God Wants for Christmas.’ Although the song was released in 2014, the depth of the lyrics remains compelling.

Filmed at MUSC Children's Hospital, the video features families and sick children celebrating Christmas. However, beyond the tear-inducing video, the rich baritone of his voice asking what God wants for Christmas is powerful.

Written by Darius himself, Monty Russell Criswell and Frank Rogers, the following words attempt to guess what God would want for Christmas

'Something that you can't find in a store. Maybe peace on earth, no more empty seats in the church might be what's on His wishlist. I wonder what God wants for Christmas'
