Wearing Bras Can Be Harmful For Women's Health, According To Science

Date July 4, 2019

For most women, there is no better feeling at the end of a long day than returning home and taking off their bras. But most are still wearing them because we think that it can keep breasts young and healthy and prevent the gravity of sagging them down and stretching the skin.

The others, however, assert that you need to let your breasts breathe. So here is the question - Bra or no bra? Which is better though?

According to Professor Jean-Denis Rouillan' study bras are not necessary for women’s breast health. After conducting the research he came to the conclusion that, if perkier breasts, reduction of back pain and prevention of sagging breasts are the goals, then bras are not the way to achieve them.

Moreover, Rouillon said he discovered that women who stopped wearing bras had up to a 0.3-inch lift in their nipples compared to those who wore bras regularly. In fact, not wearing bra stimulates own tissues to produce collagen and elastin more actively naturally, thus preventing sagging.

In the same vein, the professor believes that wearing a bra is extremely harmful to youngsters as bras actually prevent breasts from growing or achieving their natural lift.

In an interview to France Info, Professor Rouillon said that:

"Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. On the contrary, they get saggier with a bra."

Moreover, according to new findings, wearing bra contributes to fibrocystic disease and breast cancer.

Women, however, wear bras not only for medical but also for psychological, aesthetic and practical reasons.

Writer Deborah Orr aptly pointed out that bras keep our breasts from "wobbling about" and our movements can become restricted and uncomfortable without them. Moreover, wearing a well-fitting, supportive bra can help women who struggle with fibrocystic breasts

All in all, the decision of whether or not to wear a bra ultimately depends on the individual.

The foremost advice is to know the exact kinds and sizes that suit you best and feel happy with the way you look regardless you wear a bra or not.
