We live in an internet age, an era in which people find it easy to sit behind their keyboards and basically spew all kinds of hate. Anyone can become a target for these cyber-bullies, but the good news is that many victims are hitting back in a beautiful way.

When Melissa Gibson shared this lovely picture celebrating herself and her boyfriend, many of her fans had great things to say about the cute couple.

Unfortunately, there were some who preferred to focus on their difference in body types. Apparently, these trolls couldn't get past the fact that Melissa had a curvier frame while her boyfriend was slimmer. As a result, they made all kinds of rude comments.

A day later, Melissa took to Instagram again and opened up about the hate she received following her initial post. She revealed that people judged them as a couple and even implied that her boyfriend must have some type of fat fetish to be attracted to her.

All these didn't bother the proud curvy woman, however. She wrote:

And if the world won’t just let us be, we will keep fighting for our love, for our space, for our right to be seen, accepted without question, and celebrated.

Melissa expressed her surprise at how bothered people seemed to be about her relationship and how crazy it was that they placed so much value on the physical aspect, making it look like what they had was unnatural.

She called out commenters who made her feel like she didn't deserve her boyfriend and their love was abnormal. She then concluded by letting the haters know she would no longer let their opinions affect her.

So while you insist on yelling your insecurities and bigotry at me, realize I’m not playing the game you play any longer. I’m not playing by your rules.

Her fans were very impressed with the way she handled herself in the face of all that negativity. They offered their support and encouraged her to continue celebrating who she was and who she loved. @kellymgraci commented:

Don't ever let anyone's negativity get in your way people can be just nasty I think you and him look beautiful together and may God take you both on a long loving Journey.

It's pretty incredible that Melissa chose to respond to the naysayers with words of love and inspiration. It does take someone confident, loving and kind to do that. So who can blame her man for being smitten?
