This condition is called hyperpigmentation, and it’s caused by an excess of melanin in the body.

The triggers might also be:
- Hormonal disbalance;
- Insulin resistance;
- Skin injuries or irritation;
- Overexposure to the sun: Excessive UV can cause the condition, also as known "age" or "liver spots". They appear on the parts of the body often exposed to the sun rays.

Red-haired and light-skinned people are naturally more likely to have hyperpigmentation.
It is possible to treat the dark spots with home remedies, so if the hyperpigmentation really bothers you, you may try these effective self-made medicines:
1. Lemon juice
It’s a natural bleaching agent that can help you whiten your skin. Take the juice from one lemon and dip a cotton disc into it. Rub your face with juice gently, then leave it for 10 minutes approximately, and rinse with warm water. If you feel any discomfort, wash you face immediately.
Note that you must wash your face thoroughly and avoid exposing it to the sunlight for a while after applying the lemon juice.
