For The First Time In Years, Woman Checks Her Bra Tag And Realizes She Has Always Worn Her Bra All Wrong

Date April 11, 2019

Women have been wearing bras for decades, but many of them still haven't figured out the right size or the correct way to put them on. So it's understandable that once this young lady took the time to read the directions on the tag, she realized she had been wearing her bra the wrong way for most of her life.

A surprising revelation

Twitter user Brittany Packnett shared a post on social media a few days ago. Apparently, she had just purchased a bra and then decided to look at the tag to read the directions.

On the tag, there was a heading that said 'How to put on a bra' followed by a three-step instruction. First, the wearer is advised to wear the bra and knot it using the loosest hook. Then, she should gather the breasts properly into the cups. Finally, the bra brand recommended that the wearer tightens the straps every other month.

Brittany posted this advice on her page and said:

Just told I’ve been putting on my bras wrong for twenty years. You probably have, too.

In subsequent tweets, Brittany went on to say she did not think to give the directions a second look when she saw the heading.

She assumed she was a pro at putting on her underwear, only to later realize that her way of hooking her bras at the middle clasp was all wrong.

How to choose a bra

It turns out that the majority of women aren't wearing their bras right. Thankfully, the internet is chock-full of information and tips that can help.

Here are 5 tips to help you understand if the bra really fits:

1. The centre of the bra must sit flat against the breastbone;

2. The underband must sit flat against your body. You need to pick a smaller back size if it either can be pulled away easily, shows off the breast tissue underneath, or jumps up;

3. The underwiring must sit flat against your ribcage, but make no marks on the body after some time of wearing;

4. The bra cups must enclose the breasts and create smooth lines along the edge of the bra;

5. Your breasts must not show off over the top or under the arms. Pick a smaller size if there is an extra space in them.

The danger of wearing bras wrongly

According to research, wearing a wrong bra size can cause a range of health problems, including breast pain which occurs in about 50% of women.
