Readily Available Substances That Can Help You Get Rid Of Ants In Your Home

Although they are such tiny creatures, ants can be a great nuisance to homeowners. These insects are well equipped when it comes to infiltration and infestation, thus making them a huge pain in the back.

They are mostly found in homes during the warmer parts of the year, searching for food and shelter. This fact alone is enough to point out that the kitchen is most times their favorite abode.

Also, they can be found in bathrooms, basements, bedrooms, and even inside of walls, to mention a few of their favorite spots.

However, adequately dealing with them is not impossible. Here are a few life-hacks to keeping ants out of your homes for good.

1. Lemons

Lemons can be used for more than making refreshing drink alone as it also repels insects such as ants. The smell released from its juice disturbs them and can be very useful in keeping the ants outside.

How to use lemons:

First, slice fresh lemons and mix with a little amount of water. Then sprinkle the mixture across edges, doorways, and windows all over the house.

Also, the peels from the lemon can be scattered outside. Next time ants want to come in, and they'd definitely have a rethink.

2. Cayenne Pepper

This is another effective natural method that does not require you to leave your kitchen to find solutions to get rid of ants. Cayenne pepper is a home ingredient that's sure to remedy ant infestation.

How to use cayenne pepper:

In a similar nature to lemon, sprinkle the pepper across edges, doors, windows and other parts of the house where you believe ants may gain access. Also, the pepper can be put in the nest to disperse them. 

3. Chalk

Chalk is a very efficient remedy to ant infestation that not only keeps them out of homes but it is also capable of repelling them in external parts, such as gardens or lawns. The chemical, calcium carbonate, present in chalks acts as a strong repellant for ants.

How to use chalk:

The chalk can be used as a form of boundary. By drawing a line around the home, the chalk powder would keep the ants away.

To take care of external parts, the chalk can be grounded and then sprinkled in the garden. 

4. Adhesive tape

The use of aggressive tape is a method that is effective for keeping ants, other insects, and even larger pests away from homes.

How to use adhesive tape:

Pull the tape and place it against edges of pieces of equipment or places to be protected. Ensure you leave the sticky side facing up to trap the insects and, in some cases, larger pests.

5. Water in plastic containers

This entails filling plastic containers with water to serve as a moat and prevent insects from getting to unwanted things, such as food materials. It's very effective for use in places such as kitchen and stores.

How to use water in plastic containers:

Put snacks, dishes, and other materials that may attract ants on a table. Fill plastic containers with water and place them beneath each leg of the table. This would prevent the ants from getting to your food.

Completely getting rid of ants requires more effort as they are quite stubborn. However, with the proper steps, it can be achieved.
