1-year-old Alondra Torres Arias was a victim of this condition, but despite it claiming her life, her family's actions afterward have inspired millions all over the world.
At just one year of age, Alondra’s parents had to come to terms with the harsh reality that their baby was leaving them very soon. She had eventually surrended to pneumonia at the hospital in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
However, out of great concern to helping others, they decided to donate her kidneys and liver and ended up saving three lives.
In a Facebook post, her mom, Andrea Salgado Flores, explained the whole ordeal:
“Yesterday was signed the brain death of my daughter Alondra. Probably, she left days before, I talked to her and kissed her until the last minute. I write because I know there were a lot of people on the slope, so I asked that this message be extended.”
She further revealed that she and her husband were struck by profound tragedy as they had to walk their daughter to the operating room, but were moved by the kind gesture of the hospital workers, who honored them with the heroes walk.
This was captured in a video which accompanied the post, and the workers can be seen lining up the hallway as the family passed by.
They had their hands raised respectfully, and some could be heard saying "gracias", which means "thank you".
It was heart melting, and it was apparent that Andrea and her husband were moved by the kind gesture, as she added in the post that she had never walked so proudly with her head high.
