The most high-profile Hollywood ex-couple worked out an agreement that satisfies both parties and managed to avoid dragging each other to court.
Jolie’s lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean said in a statement to Reuters:
A custody arrangement was agreed two weeks ago, and has been signed by both parties and the judge.
Both Jolie and Pitt’s representatives haven’t commented on what exactly the arrangement would look like. The ex-couple’s family members haven’t disclosed any details either, but Jolie’s father, Jon Voight, had a few words to say about his daughter’s divorce and subsequent custody battle.
Jon Voight shares his opinion
The actor appeared at the Movieguide Awards on February 8, and Us Weekly didn’t miss the chance to ask him a few questions about family matters. Voight praised his daughter, saying:
She’s a very invested mom. She’s on it. She’s on it with these kids. She gives them love every second of their day. She’s very smart too. Smart girl. Brave. She’s got all these great qualities.
When asked about Jolie's custody arrangement with Pitt, the actor didn’t go into details:
I pray for all the members of the family — Brad as well. Everybody’s gonna be OK. That’s it.
He added that he enjoys being a grandpa and cherishes the time he spends with his daughter’s six kids: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Voight’s relationship with Jolie hasn’t always been perfect, and that makes him appreciate his grandchildren even more.
Voight’s complicated relationship with Jolie
Angelina Jolie was only 2 years old when her dad and mom, Marcheline Bertrand, got a divorce. Jolie and her brother, James Haven, were raised by a mom and saw dad occasionally.
When Jolie started making a name for herself as an actress, her dad was immensely proud of her and supported her career choice. The actress wasn’t as close with dad as she was with mom, but she was on good terms with him nonetheless.
In the early aughts, their relationship went sour and they barely spoke to each other. However, they finally reconciled nearly a decade later, and Voight finally got to know his grandkids.
After his daughter filed for divorce from Pitt in September 2016, the actor’s role in his grandchildren’s lives acquired a new meaning.
It’s nice to see this famous father-daughter duo being on good terms again. The 80-year-old actor now gets to enjoy what’s most important in life: spending time with family.
