Many parents leave the door to the children's bedroom slightly open either on the child’s request or in order to hear what is happening in the room. But an American firefighter explained why you should never do that.

A fire department posted an important warning to all parents on its Facebook page.

To be more persuasive, the firefighters provided an example. The other day they had to put out a fire in a residential building. Fortunately, all family members and pets were okay.

The firefighter attached two photos from the scene. One picture shows a severely damaged door, and the other picture shows the same door, only on the other side, which practically remained intact.

While the front of the door is severely damaged the closed door protected the bedroom and its contents. If this were an occupied bedroom the closed door could have saved a life.

– concluded the representative of the fire department.
