On The First Christmas After Her Husband Passed Away, A Grandma Was Given A Precious Gift By Her Family
When Jeanie Gum's husband, Bill, passed away from cancer early this year, her family imagined that things would be difficult for her for a while.
Jeanie and Bill were high school sweethearts and they were married for 64 years. This meant that for most of their lives, they did everything together. So in the few weeks and months following Bill's death, Jeanie would have definitely felt alone. But her family wanted to make sure she did not feel too sad during the holidays.
For her first Christmas without her beloved, one of Jeanie's granddaughters, Sammie Beaty, wanted to make sure her 'nanny' got a very special gift. She came up with the idea to turn one of Bill's favourite Christmas sweaters into a pillow.
Sammie and other members of Jeanie's family decided on the sweetest inscription for the pillow.
This is a shirt I used to wear, and whenever you hold it, know I am there. Love, Bill.
Speaking to GoodHousekeeping, Sammie said they wanted the present to bring her grandma some comfort.
She shared the pictures and videos of the moment her grandmother received and opened her gift on Facebook.
The video which was posted on December 8 has already been viewed over 4.4 million times. Thousands of people shared their comments and most of them were simply touched by how much the incredible gift meant to the elderly woman.
Sammie said watching her grandmother open the present, the room was filled with "overwhelming, with tears and sadness, but also hope because we knew it was something that she will always cherish in my papaw's memory."
She also added that her grandma said it was the best gift she had ever received in her life.
Hopefully, Jeanie can be comforted by this beautiful pillow and it will serve as a reminder that the love of her life was not very far away.
